Humble Beginnings

In 1989, it was birthed in the heart of a man of God to love people who had been beaten, battered and bruised by the world and by the instituionalized Church. It was out of that heart that Resurrection Life Ministries was started. Founding Pastor James Hickman or "Pappa" as he was affectionantely known to many for years was a gentle giant. His heart for Picayune was not only evident to RLM but to the whole community. It was in 1989 that thirteen people began meeting in "Papa" and "Tishy's" (James' wife) living room, praying, worshipping and studying the scriptures. And after twenty-one years nine of those faithful few (The other 4 have gone on to be with the Lord.) are still a part of RLM, serving and loving God and people.

Yesterday...

In 2000 Pastor James Hickman stepped down and turn the leadership role over to his youngest son Allen Hickman. Pastor Allen was with his dad at theinception of RLM and still serves the people of RLM and our city faithfully and passionately as Lead Pastor. Under the leadership of Pastor Allen the church has grown to well over 2000 people meeting in weekly services. Throughout it's history RLM has reached out to the city and community in many ways. From our free medical clinic started back in 2005 in the midst of the wake of Hurricane Katrina to serving as a community leader in sports, school system and much more.

Today...

As of today we are meeting in 38,000 square foot renovated store front. Our people meet for worship in two services each Sunday and youth and children's ministry meet during the week on Tuesdays and Wednesday. Lifegroups are our small group ministry. We have over 100 lifegroups that meet weekly, everything from kids praise groups to motorcycle groups to swedish weaving or Leadership 101. This is where people truly connect and live out the true mission of the church.

Tommorrow...

We are seeing growth in all areas of the church, from the children's ministry to lifegroups. Our mission to love God and love people is not even close to being fulfilled. As long as there are people we will continue to reach out and minister the love of Jesus. Part of that vision is leaving a leagacy. The Rise and Build campagian was started back in 2007 and we are still actively pursuing the fulfilling of a new campus on 65 acres in the heart of Picayune.
