Why Marriage Matters

The church is in the world to make a difference. This is especially true in the U.S. as related, not only to the lost, but in marriage. Statistics indicate that the divorce rate in America is one out of every two marriages end in divorce. The statistics are the same among church members as non-church members. Obviously some thing is drastically wrong. The church should and must make a difference in order to reverse this trend. Marriage Matters is designed to do just that.

What Is Marriage Matters

Marriage Matters is a whole life marriage initiative that involves the whole family from birth to the elderly.
It is teaching and instruction based on the Bible to insure the success of marriage from the ground up.
The only way to insure a successful marriage is to build on the right foundation.

Seven Marriage Initatives

First....

We begin with children by impressing upon them the importance of family. Many children today live with only one parent because of the divorce rate. Consequently they have no visible concept of what is a family. In other instances there are “live-in” companions, which leaves a child with a skewed model of family. RLM is committed to correct these misconceptions in a sensitive and loving way.

Second....

The junior high and senior high ministries at RLM are focusing on dating issues prevalent among today’s youth. Emphasis is being placed on how to date, when to date, whom to date, and where to date. Traditionally the church has given very little attention to this issue. Consequently our young people have had to deal with dating concepts on their own or depend on information gleaned from their peers who are as immature and unknowledgeable as they are.

Third...

RLM is also addressing the marriage and divorce issue with young adult singles. The goal here is to prepare this age group in their search for a spouse with whom they will spend the rest of their life. This preparation builds on what these young people received in the youth ministries at RLM. Emphasis is placed on understanding covenant, characteristics to look for in a prospective spouse, dangers of live-in relationships, financial considerations, etc...

Fourth...

When a couple becomes engaged we will provide them with ministry designed to enhance their engagement period and assist them in preparing for the wedding event. This ministry will include such things as: a betrothal ceremony, premarital counseling, ceremony selection, rehearsal, decorations, etc. Many couples are exhausted by the time the actual wedding occurs because of the demands of these preparations. Our goal is to relieve them of this exhaustion. Therefore, a committee of volunteers skilled in these matters will make these arrangements using input provided by the prospective bride and groom.

Fifth...

RLM will provide the couple with a mentoring ministry for one year, or longer if desired, after their marriage. The mentors are volunteers who are carefully screened couples that have stable marriages and have undergone extensive training in this area.

Sixth...

A vital ministry is available to couples, which are already married, which provides counseling designed to resolve issues that could lead to divorce. RLM operates from a mentality that spiritual warfare is being waged against marriages. Added to that human frailties such as frictions, misunderstandings, money matters, rearing children, stress related to work, sexual matters, etc are frequently sources for problems to develop within a marriage and need counseling. RLM has a number of spiritually seasoned, trained and experienced couples, which provide this vital ministry.

Seventh...

RLM is committed to take care and minister to individuals who have been divorced or who are in the process of getting a divorce. We understand that there are instances when a person has exhausted every means to save their marriage and have no other alternative but divorce. Our commitment is to provide these individuals with necessary care needed to restore them to wholeness. The methodology used to do this is found in the divorce recovery section of Marriage Matters.
